A Great Week & Weekend

Spent the end of last week in card making mode. Have the cards for my daughter finished and am very pleased with how they turned out. Have made a few extra as I want to be able to take some to work to show the girls what I have been doing in my time off. The weekend turned out to be a bonus. My stepsister got her ScorPal (have I created a card making monster?) and we found white swiss dot sheer ribbon at the Michaels closest to her house. We also found the white cardstock we use for card bases on sale at Office Depot. Picked up some invitation envelopes while I was there - can you ever have too many envelopes? So have decided to show just one of the cards I am sending to Ali - sort of a sneak peak!

A Whole Week

Where has the time gone? I can't believe it is a whole week since my last post. The week has been quite quiet. Lunch out at Sushi Boat yesterday and a lot of errand running. Got a bee in my bonnet about getting some sheer swiss dotted ribbon and finally found most of what I want at Michaels. Just need the pure white stuff which seems hard to find and of course I want the narrow ribbon.
My daughter has asked me to make some cards. Her best friend Corrine can take them to her when she leaves here on April 16. I am of course thrilled to be asked to make the cards, so have gone into production mode and have 16 made and plan to do enough to make two dozen. They are turning out to be very nice but won't post them here until I know Corrine has arrived in Brisbane and delivered them to Ali- don't want to spoil the surprise.
Received another swap card late last week and have permission to post a picture. Virginia from Arizona made this unique card for a spring mingle on one of the groups. The card layout is different in that inside it has a flap with a verse on it. Will post picture of front and then the card opened. Think I will try to make a few of these.

Quite the Week

Had lunch yesterday with another colleague at Sushi Boat - a favorite haunt of mine - then off to Scrap store to find a paper sale - yes I bought some more paper (like I need more paper!). Yesterday, decided to stamp and paint some images with my mica paints - turned out pretty good. Will try making some cards with the images over the weekend. Today I went for lunch with my son. He likes to eat at Ginger Beef as they have a buffet and he can eat lots of the things he likes. We have been going there since the kids were very young. (My son will be 29 in September so that's a long time.) The waitresses haven't changed and greet us like friends which is so nice. Before going home, I stopped at the mail box to discover a CCE (Canadian Card Exchange) card in the mail from Diane L.. She has given me permission to post a scan of her card. The scan does not do it justice, a cream card base with pale green card stock layered over top, both of which are outlined in gold. The image (Paper
Wishes) is stamped on cream, layered on black. What a wonderful gift you have sent. Thank you Diana for sharing your talents.

Busy Day

Today was full of "busyness" - took my son's dog to the groomers. It was her first time getting spiffied up - this is a border collie whom son "inherited" after he moved onto an acreage west of Strathmore. She sadly had been neglected and wouldn't come near the house, ran in circles chasing her tale - mostly out of boredom. She is so smart and has turned out to be a wonderful pet. She still spins but a lot less than when she first happened on the scene. She got dropped off this morning at our house so I could take her to groomers when it opened. She looked so sad. She just stood at the front door....waiting........ enough to break your heart! After a quick shower I loaded her into my car and off we went to the groomers. What a trooper - she went in but was very scared when they wanted to take her into the back. The girls were so good with her and just coaxed her. My son says she looked like a different dog when he picked her up this afternoon. Makes sense - what female doesn't feel better after getting a new hairdo?
From there had appt in south end of town so stopped by stamp store...yes of course I bought some stamps and then went on to have lunch at LaBrezza with a work colleague. What a wonderful restaurant - great food, great service and great company! So all in all a wonderful day!

Happy St. Patrick's Day

Hello and top of the morning to you all - Yes I am Irish - a long way back but on both sides there are Irish ancestors. Today in the mail, I received a mingle card from Tracie, a new member of one of the yahoo groups - how appropriate for this card to arrive today! I also received a long awaited and much wanted new embossing folder, Birds & Swirls from a wonderful friend, Deb, in Minnesota. I just had to make a card! The birds on the front are from a stamp cube purchased some time ago but never used so I thought this might be as appropriate a place as any! Hope you enjoy the cards and have a wonderful St. Patrick's Day.

another card

March 25 is my DD's significant other's birthday. He lives in Brisbane, Australia, so had to make this and get it into the mail so he would have it before his birthday. Men's cards are definitely a challenge.

Gate Card Challenge

One of the challenges for the weekend is to make a gate card (one that opens in the middle instead of on the right) - here are my attempts - going to try to make one for each season so here are spring and winter.

Thank you card

I received the nicest card yesterday from Christine, someone I met in a yahoo group. We have a common interest in making cards using stamps and the cuttlebug. Because her machine did not come with the little box of one die and four small embossing folders, I sent her some samples for which she sent me this wonderful card. Thank you Christine for sharing your talent with me and allowing me to post your card on my blog.

new cards for young woman's birthday

Finally got four cards made - guess six was a bit ambitious but very happy with the
results as was my friend. She said her biggest
problem was deciding which one to give
to her son's
girlfriend.

Monday morning

Well had coffee early yesterday moring at Tims with old friend. Had made her some cards and finally remembered to bring them to coffee date.We had a good visit and she needs a birthday card for her DS's girlfriend. She said the girl likes bright things, so that is my goal for this week - to make my friend about half a dozen cards. Hopefully one she can give to this girl as well as others who are having birthdays soon. I laughed when she said she almost didn't want to give the hand made cards away....I remember feeling like that too once upon a time but now.....I just told her there were lots more where they came from.
Also have to clean up my craft room as have my stepsister coming to play in the next day or two. Not sure why this happens but when I make a card, especially if I am in a rush, I get it made and then look at my room and it looks like a bomb went off in there - anyone else have the same issues? Wish I could get better at putting stuff away as I use it - some days I spend more time looking for something I just put down than I actually spend crafting!

Another weekend

Well turns out DS and his girlfriend had wonderful time but she ended up getting sick the moment they got home and is just now feeling better! Am going to go play in my stamp room and see what I can create - just got my snowman border stamp, an ebay win, (yes I know wrong season!) after a very long wait - so thought I would stamp some images and practice coloring. Got myself new book called The Stamper's Bible full of interesting ideas - different ways to use stamps - so will have a look at that today too! Perhaps I will have some new cards to share with you later!

new Embossing folder

Decided I would take the challenge and make a man's card - using one of the new embossing folders. This is reflective of my style - maybe too plain or simple for some but I like it.

good week

Yesterday packed up my Scor-Pal in my new tote courtesy of Diana Crick and headed over to Sandy's place. Wanted to show her the Scor-Pal - she got right in there and had a grand old time scoring cardstock. We also made several cardfronts using the new embossing folders. We have discovered the thicker the cardstock, the better for both scoring and the new embossing folders. There have been so many tips posted to the ScorPalPals group - it is going to take me awhile to try all the techniques. On the way home, I stopped at a LSS and found some wonderful bargains on cardstock trimmed to wrong size according to owner but just the right size for cardfronts.
I love, love, love my new embossing folders and my ScorPal!
I am picking up my DS and his girlfriend from the airport as they arrive home tonight from Cancun. He's been there before but this was her first time. They were both pretty excited when they left - I do hope they had a good time.

Fun weekend

Yesterday two dear old friends come to my house for a girl's night away. In the afternoon, we drove to Inglewood and wandered through shops admiring the unique furniture and lawn decorations. Then we went for supper to a "diner" - 50's style - food was great - then home to watch a movie. Of course I couldn't get my new DVD/VHS recorder to work so had to find and figure out how to plug in my old one - we had more laughs over that! But finally we were able to watch the movie, "Return to Me" - a favorite of mine - then to bed. Breakfast consisted of whole wheat pancakes, fresh fruit and assorted breakfast meats with lots of coffee. What a fun time we had. We have decided we need to do that about every three or four months - just the girls - a day of shopping (not necessarily to buy anything), dinner out, a movie and then bed with a big breakfast. Does life get any better?
